Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Domain Name Registration

We hear that domain names should be registered in pairs, but we don't understand why you would need a .com and .net domain with the same names (e.g. insbec.com and insbec.net).  Why should I register both?

  • Domains are similar to property.  If you own a retail business, you do what you can to stay ahead of the competition.  Preventing competition from setting up across the street from you is a strategic business move, and spending $1.38 per month for that assurance is a reasonable expense.
  • Another benefit of registering both .com and .net domains is that you can forward one domain to the other.  For example, you setup your website on mywebsite.com and point mywebsite.net to it, or vice versa.  If a user types either website address, they will land on your website.

Why would I want to register a domain in my personal name
? Doesn't that seem a little vain?
  • Most people believe that the Internet is going to be the way to market yourself in the future.  I suppose it's a little like the dotcom era.  Much of communication has moved to the Internet.  It's where we shop, network socially, apply for jobs, check to see what movie we'll see during our next trip to the theater, find directions, locate restaurants and browse their menus, and it's where we conduct business.
  • There have been several customers I've helped recently that decided it was time to register their place on the web only to find out that their preferred address was already taken.  I have ensured my place on the web by registering darinpeterson.com, .net, .name, .me, and I have also registered my full given name at .com, .net, .name, and .me.  Vain?  Maybe, but I've ensured my place on the web.  My recommendation would be to do the same for yourself and for your children.
  • Register your domain here under Domain Names.

Piece Builder™ Flash Videos

I'm having problems with flash videos playing in my browser.  What can I do?
  • Flash videos have been tested in Internet Explorer (IE) 6, 7, and 8.  They have also been tested in Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4.0.4.
  • Keep in mind that flash file sizes range from 1.8 – 15.7 MB.  Firefox and Safari show a “LOADING” message while the video is loading, where IE shows nothing except what appears to be a broken image.  We print a message at the top of the page for each video notifying users of this inconvenience.
  • Other important aspects to take into consideration are the allowable bandwidth that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers, and whether you have a flash player plug in installed in your browser.  Bandwidth restrictions can significantly impact video performance.  We provide a link at the top of our help page, where Adobe Flash Player can be downloaded.  Adobe and individual browser sites provide installation instructions for the Adobe’s Flash Player.

Piece Builder™ Functionality

Does Piece Builder™ support account logins?
  • The Piece Builder™ content management system supports customer logins for InSBeC customers.  We minimized the personal information needed from our users requiring only a name, phone number, and email address to subscribe.  The user pin, password and secret question are securely stored in a format that is not human readable.  Minimizing information required to use Piece Builder™ and securing login information is intended to bolster customer confidence.
  • The websites built by Piece Builder™ do not support logins.  Many users on the Internet have several accounts on other websites, where logins are required.  Often individuals don’t want the responsibility of remembering another username and password, and they don’t particularly like having their personal information scattered across the web.  Visitors are more likely to purchase from an unknown merchant, if the merchant avoids collecting personally identifiable information.  Involving PayPal in online transactions also gives buyers additional insurance, when making purchases from unknown merchants.
  • Eliminating the need for customer logins provides potential customers with confidence in doing business on your website.  It also reduces the overhead of maintaining customer accounts for merchants using Piece Builder™.

Does Piece Builder™ support merchant account payment processing?
  • Piece Builder™ was designed to be simple, safe, and secure.  The integrated payment processing system interfaces with PayPal to allow individuals and businesses to take advantage of credit card processing without the overhead of establishing a merchant account.  Supporting merchant payment processing would require a significant amount of overhead to cover security expenses related to collecting and storing sensitive financial information.  Additionally, Piece Builder™ eCommerce customers would be required to purchase and maintain a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate used for cryptographic protocols, which impacts site performance.  We want payment processing to be simple, safe, and affordable.  For those reasons, we do not support merchant payment processing.
  • To learn more about eCommerce payment processing supported by Piece Builder™, please read the Buying from InSBeC page.  This will help you understand how payment transactions will be processed on your website.

Does Piece Builder™ track my inventory?
  • This is an area for future consideration, but Piece Builder™ currently does not support inventory tracking.  We do have built in functionality that allows you to enable and disable item entries.  This way you can control which items visitors see without removing items from the database.

Does Piece Builder™ track online purchases?
  • Piece Builder™ is integrated with PayPal, and PayPal tracks purchases made through your website.  PayPal has a great interface for tracking purchases, which can be downloaded in several different formats.  We did not see the need to duplicate what is already offered through PayPal.

Trying Piece Builder™ Before Subscribing

Why can’t I try Piece Builder™ for free before buying a subscription?
  • We require users to identify themselves before using Piece Builder™, and this means confirming your information.  Requiring users to identify themselves before using Piece Builder™ provides us with an additional security measure that helps keep our system and our subscribers safe.  We consider a purchase through PayPal sufficient for potential users to identify themselves.
  • We offer two services, Transport and Ditch for only ninety-nine cents ($0.99) to anyone wanting to try Piece Builder™ before purchasing a subscription.  No setup fees are charged to individuals wanting to test drive our content management system before making a decision to subscribe.

Piece Builder™ Subscriptions and Free Subscriptions

I heard that I qualify for a free Piece Builder™ account, if I’m a non-profit organization.  Is that true?
  • If you or the organization you represent provides products or services to your community at no cost and we believe your contributions benefit others, we will consider providing you a subscription to Piece Builder™ at no cost.  To initiate the process for being considered, please send a message to InSBeC Support with the following information:
    • The name of your organization (if applicable)
    • A contact name
    • The address of the individual or organization applying for an account
    • The phone number for the individual or organization applying for an account
    • A convenient time for us to contact you
    • A description of the product(s) or service(s) the individual or organization provides
    • At least three references who can confirm your activities
  • Once we receive this information, we will do some background research, and contact you to discuss how you want to use Piece Builder™ to further your cause.  When we make our decision, we will contact you to let you know whether you qualify for a free subscription.
  • Subscribers to free Piece Builder™ subscriptions will be responsible for:
    • A domain name (see Domain Names) to store the web pages for their organization
    • A one-time $10.00 setup fee to integrate their domain name with Piece Builder™

I want to use Piece Builder™ to build my website, but I can’t afford the eCommerce subscription fee.  Are there other options?
  • Yes.  You can use Piece Builder™ Standard and integrate PayPal buttons into your website to sell products and services.  It’s going to take a little longer to setup your website, and you’re not going to have the cool features offered by an eCommerce subscription that simplifies showcasing your items.  If you need to trade time for expense, this might be the way to go.
  • Ultimately, we want your business.  Ask how we can help you afford creating and maintain an online business that aligns with your budget.
